influential federal and D.C. employees union in the United States and we’re
growing stronger every day.

The U.S Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA) recently conducted a safety inspection. OSHA
has provided a safety inspection report and “Notice to Employees” that explains
the safety violations. This document
describes Unsafe and Unhealthful Working Conditions and violations of Safety
laws. A non DOD agent (OSHA) had to
resolve these serious safety issues. As
with the furloughs, it also appears a Non DoD organization will be required to
correct all the wrongs. Thank you
OSHA!!! To read this document please

Good job to two of our stewards, Executive Vice President and local President!!!
Testing Designated Positions (TDP) Error!! Our Union has successfully
removed nearly 400 bargaining unit employees (BUEs) from the Random Drug Testing
Program at Eglin AFB. We opposed the unilateral placement of BUEs in TDPs
beginning in 2011. It took the combined efforts of Steward Joe Longmire
(research), Steward Matt Bowser (grievance representation), Executive Vice
President Alan Cooper (coordination with United States Senator Bill Nelson) and
local President Thaddeus Wallace (coordination with AFGE Council 214, Civilian
Personnel, Pentagon) to get this done! Once Senator Nelson and his staff,
namely, Ms Lynn Banister (Out Reach Director), engaged, it was downhill
sledding! Those BUEs who were in positions that were erroneously designated as
TDP should be receiving notification from management in the very near future
informing them that they no longer occupy a position designated as TDP, and are
no longer subject to random drug testing. Here is a must read document you can
read by clicking on > "The
Department Of Air Force Letter To The Senator" to see
what is happening!! You can come by the Union and find out if this
Mr. Thaddeus Wallace, the president of American
Federation of Government Employees Local 1897 and Brig. Gen. David Harris, the
96th Test Wing commander signed an agreement to establish a labor-management
forum Nov. 6 2012 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The goal of the forum is to
create a high performance work environment that addresses future challenges
while fostering a high quality-of-work life for employees.
We are pleased with this agreement.
We are finally coming to a point where management and labor can sit down and
work things through pre-decisional involvement in a forum that will benefit the
mission. Once we get started with all the pre-decisional involvement we'll see a
lot of improvement.
